Ever have one of those days where your brain just won’t boot up? You stare at the clock, feel overwhelmed, and everything on your to-do list feels impossible. That “stuck” feeling is a familiar one for many of us with ADHD. But getting moving doesn’t have to be complicated—or perfect.

Here are five ADHD-friendly ways to jumpstart your day when you feel like you’re running on empty:

🕒 1. Set a 2-Minute Timer and Just Start Something Small

Don’t aim for the whole project. Just press start on one action. Set a timer for 2 minutes and give yourself permission to stop when it rings. You probably won’t want to—but even if you do, that’s a win. Starting is the hardest part.

🗣️ 2. Say Out Loud What You’re Going to Do

Yep—talk to yourself. ADHD brains respond well to verbal activation. Say:
“I’m going to open my laptop and reply to one email.”
“I’m walking to the sink and rinsing out my coffee mug.”
It creates clarity and momentum. It’s not silly—it’s strategy.

🔁 3. Repeat a Go-To “Anchor Task”

An anchor task is something simple, familiar, and slightly productive. Things like:

  • Throwing in a load of laundry

  • Rebooting your computer

  • Refilling your water bottle

These tasks send a signal to your brain: We’re in motion now.

✍️ 4. Write a One-Line To-Do List

Don’t map out the whole day. Just write one clear action on a sticky note or your phone. Make it specific and doable:

“Email Sarah the Zoom link.”
“Put the dishes in the dishwasher.”
One step leads to the next—don’t try to leap the whole staircase.

🎧 5. Plug Into a Body Double or Guided Session

If self-starting feels impossible, borrow momentum from someone else. Body doubling or joining a structured action session gives your brain the spark it’s waiting for.

Sometimes the shift happens just by showing up.

💡 Final Thought

You don’t need to feel “ready.”
You don’t need a perfectly organized plan.
You just need a spark—one small shift to get the gears turning again.

Which one will you try today?
