I don't use a PDA

For those people who know me or are some what familiar with me then you probably know that I am one of those "computer geeks". I do a lot of stuff online and am somewhat of an expert in computer mediated communication. I enjoy using technology and am amazed at how much it can help people.

Because I have such a interest in computers many people (including myself at first) assume that I would naturally use a PDA. The funny thing is that I don't use a PDA. I do use some tools one the computer that help me but I actually use a paper planner. As much as I try to avoid paper the process of actually writing things down really helps me remember and better process things.

Winning with ADD

I just came across a new blog today about Attention Deficit Disorder called Winning with ADD. It's a pretty new blog but it has some great posts already. The post Velcro & ADD -- A Sticky Match Made in Heaven offers a great suggestion which is making me think about going out right now and buying plenty of Velcro. There also a post Dodging a Bullet – 24 Hours at a Time which is very similar to The 24 Hour Rule which I posted a couple of weeks ago. I guess great minds think alike!

Are People with ADD Scrollers or Clickers?

A couple of months ago I wrote an entry titled Scrolling is not ADD Friendly. After viewing a few different web sites I had become very annoyed at the fact that I had to do a lot of scrolling to find basic information. To tell you the truth I can't even remember what those sites are right now.

After posting Scrolling is not ADD Friendly I posted a poll at the site ADD Forums. To my surprise the majority of the people who answered the poll preferred to scroll instead of click to find information. So maybe I was wrong about this. Maybe it's not an ADD thing but rather a "Tara" thing.

About ADD Makes Me Dizzy

The site About.com has had an ADD section on from as far back as I can remember. It was one of the first online resources out there for Attention Deficit Disorder. It has some great information and articles.

It also has a ton of ads! Don't get me wrong I am not against advertising on sites. I have them on some of my own sites. But these ads are way too flashy!

I just went there to read an article about ADD Coaching by David Girwerc. I had a hard time getting past the first page of the article because of all the moving and flashing ads.

It's really too bad that About.com has done this with their site. They make it too hard for an Adult with ADD like me to focus on the content.

ADD Resources on iTunes

Purchase iPod A while back I wrote post about the book Delivered From Distraction being available as an Audio Download. I also wrote a post about the Music to De-Stress CD. Well, I just discovered that both of those resources are currently available through iTunes. For those who have Ipods this is very convenient.

ADD Reality With Jerry Seiden

I came across a great resource for Adult ADD today. It's the ADD Reality Show which is a podcast hosted by Jerry Seiden. In addition to this wonderful podcast he has also written a book called BORN LOSERS OR LEADERS? A Positive Spiritual Perspective on ADD. I haven't read the book yet but Jerry has read some excerpts from it on his podcast. The book also seems like a great resource.

Scrolling is NOT ADD Friendly

Most people surfing the web dislike having to scroll down pages to read information. If a person has Attention Deficit Disorder this dislike usually turns in hatred.  I don't know why anybody designing a web site would intentionally put 7 pages worth information on one single web page. A blog is a bit of an exception because readers also have the option to click on links to get to the posts in the first screen shot instead of only being able to scroll.

I'm not going to put up any links to specific sites because I don't want to make any enemies. But, I keep seeing more and more of these one page web sites with mostly text and a bit of yellow highlighting. This a great way to lose many people with Attention Deficit Disorder. This is really not good business move either since a person with Adult ADD can tend to be impulsive making purchases online and make a great customer.

Maybe instead of complaining about these excessive scrolling web sites I should be thanking those who are building these web sites.  If those of us with Attention Deficit Disorder are so overwhelmed by all the info on one page we aren't going to make impulsive purchases those sites. Just think of all the money they are saving us!!!

Email Scams and ADHD

I am so sick of being sent email scams where somebody is trying to get my credit card information. I usually just forward the emails to the abuse department of what ever company the email is pretending to be from and go about the rest of my day. However I got one today that just really set me off. Maybe it's because in the past week I have also been bombarded with the Sober Worm that keeps being sent to me too.

The one I got today claimed to be from Amazon and claimed that they had reason to believe that somebody was trying to use my account to illegally sell items on Amazon. They claim that they are investigating this situation and that I need to confirm my identity with Amazon. They provide a link for me to go to and log into my Amazon account. The link in the email itself appears to go to amazon.com but actually takes those who click on it to tot-amz2.com. However the page looks just like Amazon and has actual links to Amazon.
